Since Dan and I first started changing our eating habits about 6 years ago, there have been two underpinning beliefs I’ve held in the background of my mind:
Belief #1: The world looks better through green smoothie goggles.
Belief #2: Everything’s solvable with a green smoothie.
Kind of all-encompassing, aren’t they? 🙂
That’s a testament to how life-changing those blended leaves and fruit concoctions have been for me, especially when I first started figuring out how to work online full-time when our girls were 1 and 2 years old.
And after years of experimentation, I’ll still stand firmly by that first belief.
But… a recent health challenge left me with some serious re-working to do on that second belief.
As you’ll hear me share in this video below, a little research, some honest self-reflection and diet experimentation allowed me to win back my productivity and my day-to-day comfort in working, parenting and traveling.
I’m SO glad to have had this opportunity to correct course while the stakes were still relatively low.
If you’re currently working through any kind of personal health challenge, major or minor, while building your virtual assistant business at the same time, this one’s for you…
This is the blog post I mentioned in the video above:
Since recording this a few weeks back, I’ve also had an opportunity to watch this full documentary series:
Despite the controversial title and the ‘old school’ internet marketing styling on that page above (all the red and black headlines with underlining!), I can confirm that the documentary content and expert interviews within it are exceptional. If you or a loved one are facing any type of autoimmune condition, I can’t recommend it enough.
Also since recording this, I made a decision to really prioritize long-term health by consulting with a functional medicine doctor for full blood testing on nutrient, toxicity and allergy status. Now is the time, while we’re here in Australia and it’s so much easier for me to organize it all speaking in English!
So far I’ve completed a detailed health history and gone in for a consultation with Dr. Michael Woodbridge of Nutritional & Environmental Medicine Queensland. When I get the results back in January, I’ll let you know how it all went.
If I was based in North America, Dr. Tom O’Bryan’s office at www.theDr.com would be my first pick for consultation and blood testing (he’s the guy that hosted the Betrayal documentary series above). I have no personal experience with their office so couldn’t outright recommend them, but want to share this as a jumping off point for your research if this field of functional and nutritional medicine is new to you.
If you have a resource or integrative practitioner you’d like to share for everyone’s benefit, don’t hesitate to post it in the comments below.
“A person who is healthy has a thousand dreams. A person who’s not healthy, has just one. And, it’s to feel better. When you can give someone their health back, they can go after all of their dreams.”
